Why is Weight Loss Important to Your Health?
You are one of the fortunate ones if you are happy with your weight. And if you also have a positive outlook on your body and your life, you are to be congratulated. But you may also have a need for a weight loss program. Some folks who are overweight say that they are happy with their bodies and their weight but the facts remain that being overweight is not healthy. Even if you don't mind the extra pounds, there are several reasons to consider losing those few extra pounds.
The most important reason to lose the extra weight is that it puts you at a much higher risk for several diseases. The main risk to anyone who is overweight is some form of cardiac disease, which can put you on a path to a heart attack. Many heart attacks can be fatal. When your heart is put through the extra strain of having to pump harder to perfuse the blood through your entire body, it can cause the muscle itself to tire and become fatigued. This strain can be caused by hypertension (high blood pressure), hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol) or obesity.
These symptoms can also put you at a higher risk for a stroke or TIA (transient ischemic attack). A stroke occurs when the blood and therefore oxygen does not reach the brain. Fatty deposits from high cholesterol can either totally or partially block the vessels leading to the brain or heart causing a reduction in the blood flow and a stroke is the end result in the brain or a myocardial infarction (heart attack) in the heart.
